MRI of patients 2 and 3 after complicated SE (a, b) on T2 weighted sequence compared to normal (c) and acute anoxic-ischemia at the same age (d). MRIs (a, b) were performed at mean 6 weeks after the event. The MRI of patients with DS (a, b) shared severe cortical atrophy similar to that of postanoxic-ischemic lesions but in addition dramatic loss of white matter with slight basal ganglia atrophy.
